Seeking and Obtaining Work in the Freelance Industry –

Strategy for Maintaining Workflow –

Maintaining a workflow as a freelancer can become problematic if you start to become demotivated and fall out of your routine. Maintaining a workflow is very dependant on your personal schedule, which is why many existing freelancers switch up their schedules every six months or so. For people who have families especially ones with children, they tend to change up their schedules when the school holidays come around as they may have other responsibilities on top of their work. Changing your schedule will also refresh your motivation for working as it will feel new and different which will help break up any monotony created by your previous schedule.

When thinking about maintaining a freelance workflow, it is also important to consider which different types of work make up your entire workflow and what else may affect it. The two core types or work you will most likely be doing are recurring and irregular jobs. Regular projects are the jobs that you receive from a client, or multiple clients, on a steady basis that will usually be your main source of income. Whereas irregular projects will generally be fit around the regular jobs and will come after the usual work as well, but these projects are where you can earn much more of a profit that can fund things other than the usual bills.

In addition to completing projects, a freelancer should always be looking out for new opportunities, which will usually mean keeping an eye out for new jobs, whether that means checking job boards regularly, checking and posting to social media or replying and following up on emails.

Whilst all the previous points are your priority as a freelancer, it is also very important to set aside some time for things that you want to do, whether it is simply spending more time with your family or taking some time to indulge a personal hobby or spend time on a project that you want to complete. It can also be highly detrimental if you don’t take some breaks as this could lead to you overworking yourself and finding that you burn out and lose motivation.

Personal Marketing Materials –

Personal marketing materials are essential for every freelancer as they are the key to obtaining new clients and projects. There are a few main materials that almost every freelancer will have: a website, a portfolio (usually in blog format on their website), a CV and business cards.

As an example: you are currently reading this whilst on my Blog within my Website. Below are some of my business cards.
